Architectural glazing specialists Williaam Cox Ireland picked up their award of "Best Project & Innovation Award" for their involvement in the Aviva Stadium project. The EPSE award was presented to all members of the Aviva stadium project on Wednesday at the award winning stadium.

The Aviva stadium (Dublin, Ireland) won the "Best Project and Innovation Award" because it is the first truly site-responsive stadium of its kind anywhere in the world. The European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders (EPSE) organised an award competition among its members to raise awareness of the benefits of polycarbonate in different application areas award recognises the benefits, innovativeness and creative applications of polycarbonate, which is a high-quality, transparent, thermoplastic, synthetic material with exceptional properties..

Williaam Cox Ireland Limited, designed, supplied and installed the complete architectural glazing facade - i.e. the full building envelope and glazing support structure - of the AVIVA stadium and the internal glazed screens. The scale of materials involved in creating the facade and roof was unprecedented, virtually every element was bespoke and manufactured at Williaam Cox's Dublin base. The roof consisted of over 17,000 sq ms of polycarbonate. The facade consisted of 4,500 square metres of louvres set at differing angles, thousands of individual components were designed, manufactured and installed to create this unique project.

Presenting the award to all members of the Aviva project was Alexandre Dangis, Managing Director of EUPC/ EPSE to "Martin Sweeney, Sales Director, Williaam Cox and Joanne Hurley, Marketing Manager, Williaam Cox". Williaam Cox were also recently awarded "Specialist Contractor of the Year" at the Building and Design Awards in December 2010.
