Lighting Geartrays & LED's

Gear Trays

The Sign and Display Companies have used Ferro – magnetic ballast (geartrays) to light outdoor and indoor signage and displays for many years.

(TS/T8) 12" circular to 6’ long are used to light fluorescent tubes.

Geartray’s come prewired and include a capacitor (not a suppressor), a starter and also include teni clips to hold the tubes.

High Frequency (Electronic) Gear Trays

The benefits of Electronic Ballasts:

  • Lamps operating at > 40 H2
  • No starter switches to fail.
  • Taking responsibility for the integration of different facade and structural components.
  • No starter switches to fail.
  • Power factor > 0.98. No power factor correction capacitor is required.
  • Electronic ballasts increase the luminous flux of fluorescent lamps by approximately 10%.
  • Electronic ballasts have a low power loss of less than 10% of light output.
  • Lamps warm start within 1.5 seconds.
  • Safe cut-off of defective lamps.
  • Automatic re-start after lamp replacement.

Electronic ballasts are available in a “potted” format (IP67) which means they are suitable for outdoor use.

Power LED

LED modules have been used in the signage industry for some time. They offer an alternative to neon installations and backlighting systems based on fluorescent lamps. The LED modules with Chip-on- Board (COB) technology offer ease of assembly and installation high luminous efficacy, excellent colour saturation and small mounting depth. All combine to guarantee uniform illumination of logos and lettering.

Outstanding lifetime and system efficiency:

The long life and robustness of the LED modules reduce maintenance costs and their system efficiency reduces power consumption. As a result, operating costs of signage elements are lessened over the entire life of the installation. For example, the LED modules need one quarter of power of neon installations, and only one sixth in red light.

Applications:

LED module chains are used for highlighting lines, edge lighting and for backlighting letters as well as illuminated symbols in advertising applications. Backlighting of complex contours.

Highlights:

  • Uniform illumination from a small number of LED modules.
  • Individually adjustable luminance.
  • Minimal heat generation.
  • Self-cooling module; no additional heat sink required.
