Architect: Murry O’Laoire Architects
Quantity Surveyor: Davis Langdon PKS
Main Contractor: Michael McNamara & Co
Description:
Williaam Cox Ireland Limited designed and installed the bespoke vertical glazing and rooflight to the extension to terminal 1. The glazing system to the vertical facade was Schuco FW60+ SG using concealed bracketry and Schuco dry deal gasket. The glazing system to the rooflight was Schuco FW 60+ using Silicone wet seals.
In total there is over 1600m2 of glass comprising of over 350 individual units. Each glass unit had an individual pattern designed, which installed in the correct order formed a specially commissioned “cloud pattern” across the façade.
Traditional glass printing techniques usually require an individual silk screen to be produced for each and every unit, therefore, making the architectural design intent unfeasible on a cost basis. However, using cutting edge technology, the individual glass images were applied to the glass surface (3m x 2m in size) using a CAD/CAM ink jet printer.
The “cloud formation” pattern on the glass was also designed to reduce heat buildup within the building.
